We sat down with Jacco Troost, founder of De Opera Domotica, to discuss his 27 years of experience in high-end AV integration, the emotional impact of perfect sound, and how Trinnov’s revolutionary WaveForming technology allows him to bypass the physical acoustic limitations of residential rooms.

Please introduce yourself and De Opera Domotica.

Jacco Troost: My company has been operating for 27 years, focusing on high-end audio, video, cinema sound, and custom AV integration. This showroom is the fourth location we have built, and our philosophy has always been to deliver the absolute "best of the best" in every single aspect. We strive to provide the highest standard in sound, speakers, and DSP.

Our goal is to give clients a complete spectrum of possibilities—ranging from standard high-quality setups up to the absolute limit of what is possible with sound, vision, security, and home automation. By covering everything under one roof, clients can select exactly what they want, let the rest go, and walk away with the absolute best tailored solution for their home.

What is the inspiration behind the name "De Opera"?

Jacco Troost: I started this company under the name De Opera because when you have experienced a live opera, you know exactly what that feels like. Everything in that room is designed to target your emotions—it goes straight to your heart and gives you physical goosebumps.

That is the exact standard we work toward in every room we design. We want to create a space where the home cinema experience—complete with the right room correction, DSP, vision, and sound—is absolutely perfect. If the integration is not perfect, you simply do not get those goosebumps.

Why did you choose to partner with Trinnov?

Jacco Troost: When we look at the high-end processor market, choosing Trinnov is very easy. We have worked with many different brands in the past, including Audyssey, Integra, Lexicon, Acurus, and Lyngdorf. Across all of them, we were always searching for a way to truly manage every single aspect of the frequency spectrum, specifically through precise Q factors and timing.

In my opinion, timing is the most important thing in audio. Traditional automatic time-alignment systems—where you simply place a microphone in the room, run a quick calibration, and assume you are finished—do not work. While the automatic measurement is a valuable starting point, the integrator must use their own ears to manage, adjust, and perfect the final calibration.

How does Trinnov’s WaveForming technology change how you manage room acoustics?

Jacco Troost: WaveForming completely shifts how we handle room acoustics. In a standard room, you are always fighting physical limitations. If a room has poor acoustics, you cannot simply push the physical walls out by two meters to fix the bass response. Without WaveForming, achieving a clean low-frequency response is incredibly difficult; the bass is almost always rumbling and never truly straight.

WaveForming is the only technology that allows us to overcome these physical constraints. Instead of dealing with muddy, lingering reflections, WaveForming delivers one clean, unified push of sound that travels straight through the room exactly as the creators intended. When you combine WaveForming with precise timing, you get a singular, cohesive sound field wrapped around the entire room. In other systems, the sound never feels truly "in your face." But with WaveForming, when an explosion travels across the room, it moves with absolute precision because the time alignment is flawless.

Can you explain the subwoofer configuration used to drive this system?

Jacco Troost: To make this work, we have designed an active subwoofer array. In the back of the room, we have two large, amplified JL Audio subwoofers firing forward toward the seating area to deliver that physical, tactile push in your back. In the front, we have two closed subwoofers.

This specific configuration creates a seamless connection to the front speakers. It is absolutely critical that the fast bass is tightly integrated with the front speaker array so the transition is imperceptible.

How do clients react when they experience this room?

Jacco Troost: The typical reaction we get from clients is very simple: "This sounds exactly like it should." It delivers pure clarity and pure emotion.

When we do demonstrations, we almost always start with music. I always say that a movie is actually easier to execute and demonstrate than music. If you can deliver a musical experience that catches the client emotionally, then moving them over to a movie is easy.

How does Trinnov help you manage complex, design-conscious living rooms?

Jacco Troost: We also implemented the Trinnov system in our living room showroom to tackle a very unique design challenge. We engineered a high-quality speaker system hidden entirely behind solid marble.

When you hide speakers behind architectural materials like marble, you absolutely need an incredibly powerful DSP unit to manage the resulting acoustic compromises. In this space, we have a full immersive audio layout where speakers are hidden in the side walls, the ceiling, and all around you. When you sit on the couch, you are placed inside a perfect, seamless bubble of sound. Managing an immersive layout of this complexity is impossible with a standard system; we absolutely required Trinnov to control and perfect every variable.
