LED Wall Meets Trinnov Optimizer in a Non-Rectangular Media Room

Overview: Acoustic Calibration in a Complex Media Room

When Audio & Beyond, a high-end home theater integrator in Hyderabad, was tasked with designing a versatile media room in an irregularly shaped space, they turned to Trinnov Altitude32 and its powerful Optimizer to deliver precise calibration and future-ready flexibility.

The room — part of a showroom designed by Gauri Khan Designs — needed to serve as a home theater, gaming area, and party lounge, all while maintaining premium AV performance within strict architectural limits.

Designing for Non-Rectangular Room Acoustics

“It’s not a rectangular room — there are more than five corners and a curve on the right side,” says the team at Audio & Beyond.

This unique geometry made traditional room mode analysis and subwoofer placement extremely difficult. To overcome this, the team used a beta version of AMROC, which allowed them to estimate room modes and place subwoofers in acoustic nulls — improving bass performance at listening positions.

Additionally, only limited walls were available for acoustic treatment due to architectural constraints. Despite this, the team achieved optimal reverberation times:

  • 32 bass traps installed on the front wall
  • RT60 reduced to 0.7s below 50Hz and 0.3s above 10kHz

These results were achieved through precise sabine calculations, even as architectural revisions forced recalculations during the project.

LED Wall Integration and Speaker Layout Reconfiguration

The original design featured a 13.12.6 speaker layout using K-array Domino series speakers, intended to be mounted behind a projection screen.

However, a mid-project change introduced a major new challenge:

“The projector was replaced with a micro LED video wall, which meant the bulky speakers could no longer be placed behind the screen — or above and below it due to room height.”

To adapt, the team switched to K-array Kayman line arrays (slimmer, front-of-screen). A second center channel was added and the final layout became 14.4.6, enabling full soundstage coverage around the LED screen.

“Trinnov was the only processor that fulfilled our needs — dual center channels, multiple subwoofers, discrete surround paths. No other system offered that level of control.”

“The Optimizer handled phase correction not only at crossover points, but across the full bandwidth. The difference after calibration was huge.”

Trinnov Optimizer’s advanced time-domain correction, phase alignment, and speaker remapping ensured that even in a non-rectangular room with uneven wall surfaces, the audio imaging remained sharp and immersive.

The team noted smoother transitions at crossovers and a clear sonic improvement — all without needing perfectly symmetrical room geometry.

Planning for the Future: WaveForming Readiness

Though WaveForming wasn’t deployed yet, it was built into the design:

“We left extra speaker cables in place so we can add more subwoofers and enable Trinnov WaveForming in future upgrades.”
