EBU R128

The Trinnov Loudness Meter implements momentaryshort termintegrated loudness measurements, as well as loudness range, as specified in the new EBU R128 recommendation. It also complies with USA CALM act Requirements.

It displays all the loudness measurements in a single window and all mesaurements are performed as follows, in respect of ITU-R BS.1770-1:

Momentary Loudness

•    To be compared to a VU-Meter
•    Integration time = 400 ms

Short Term Loudness

• Meaningful to check Dialog and Ambience Loudness on short passages
• Integration time = 3 seconds

Example:
• Below -30 LUFS (-7LU) dialog is too quiet, the viewer will turn up the volume
• Above -16 LUFS (+7 LU) dialog is too loud, the viewer will turn down the volume

Integrated Loudness

• Meaningful for the average loudness of the program as a whole
• Target is -23 LUFS
• Integration time = infinite or since last push on the “Clear” button gated measurement (-10LU relative to the Momentary loudness) absolute gating at -70 LUFS

Loudness Range

• Meaningful measurement for the dynamic range of the program as a whole
• Eliminates the quietest 10% and the loudest 5% of the values
• Computes the difference between the maximum and the minimum short-term values

Example:
• Action movie: 20-25 LU
• Drama: 10-15 LU
• Talk Show: 3 to 5 LU

Max True Peak

  • Displays permanently the maximum True Peak Level reached during the measurement.
  • ITU Max True Peak: -3 dBTP
  • EBU Max True Peak: -3 dBTP
  • CST Max True Peak: -1 dBTP
