/> The concept is based on a processor platform that has been conceived to cover most configuration situations and ideally answer most professional specific needs.

Hardware

The multichannel hardware platform is declined in three no compromise quality configurations: Analog, AES and Madi, each ones being upgradable with additional hardware expansion boards and/or software suites.

While Analogue setups can be scaled from 4 to 16 inputs and outputs, AES processors offer 8 inputs and outputs (with a 3×8 input channels selector) that can be extended to 16.
16 AES I/O and 16 Analogue I/O can be mixed in a single unit to fit the most complex installations.
Madi Units can be extended from 8 to 64 channels.

No matter how many I/Os are needed, Trinnov Audio expandable hardware processors range provide the answer as well as manage any speaker configurations or loudspeaker layouts from 2.0 to 22.2.

As a complement to this modular hardware design, nothing has been left to chance as all Trinnov processors are feature Intel chipsets, ultra low noise fans, separate power supplies, dual screen support, Neutrik connectors, Burr Brown converters with 119dB dynamic range, clock recovery, high jitter rejection, and +18dBu and +24dB output operations switching.

Software

Software side, Trinnov MC platforms include all the essential features of a professionnal speaker processor such as signal generators, manual third octave equalisers, manual FIR filters, EQ curves templates, delay lines, gains and trims, active crossovers, bass management, input and output routing, automatic routing, polarity control, clock settings, customisable profiles, FIR and 1/3 octave EQ preset, scenes save and recall, archiving on USB sticks, network remoting, pdf reporting…
But this package is only a very first starting point, as this is nothing more than Trinnov processors’ built-in software features, which every self respecting high quality speaker processor on the market should absolutely have.
In addition to this standard but extensive core suite, Trinnov Processor platforms are designed to host optional software modules :

The first one, The Optimizer is somehow a suite that built Trinnov Audio’s reputation. This is the perfect complement for speaker processing, as it takes the room acoustics into account for tuning and aligning the speakers accordingly. This ensures a better mix translation between rooms and helps engineers work faster and dramatically improves the decision making process during recording and mixing sessions.

Sound reproduction now comes close to perfection, but metering is also essential as it ensures a better compliance to the industry recommendations. This is where the second software module called SmartMeter comes into play, providing reliable quality control through a very accurate and comprehensive EBU R-128 compliant metering toolkit.

The Trinnov Audio Processor platform, coupled with these two additional modules becomes a very powerful solution and characterizes Trinnov Audio’s concept of integrated Monitoring Solution : designing the first technology capable of managing all the monitoring tasks in the absolute broad sense…. All in a single affordable and high performance device.

<div

MC Processors use flash disk technology removing the need for a mechanical hard drive, and ensuring mechanical robustness.

Flexible I/O Architecture

Both AES8 and Analog8 standard configurations allow for 8 simultaneous I/O and 8 processing channels. Optional AES8 and/or ADA4 boards may be added to provide up to 16 simultaneous I/O channels. Alternatively, AES inputs can be configured for input source switching of 3 groups of 8 inputs (3xAES8). MADI-8 Setups can be expanded to a maximum of 64 processing channels

Comprehensive Software Package

The standard software provides routing and mixing matrixes, manual FIR filters, parametric EQs, graphic EQs, gains, trims, Peak and RMS meters, delays, bass management, active crossovers, inputs formats management, noise generators, polarity control, advanced XML programing…

These functions can be enriched with optional software modules such as Loudspeaker/Room acoustic Analysis, Trinnov’s State-of-The-Art Digital Room Optimization and EBU-Compliant Metering Toolkit.

Powerful Equalization

The Trinnov MC Processor provides two different tools for equalization.

State-of-the-art FIR EQ per channel: based on Finite Impulse Response filters, the Optimizer’s FIR EQ allows for accurate equalization without introducting additional phase problems.

1/3 octave EQ per channel: traditional 31 band Graphic Equalizers are also provided in order to support established methodologies and standards

An infinite number of EQ and filters presets can be saved and recalled in the processor section. This is particularly useful in post-production studios when different sound reproduction standards need to be recreated in a single room (SMPTE X-curves…).

Active Crossovers

The Processor features 2-way, 3-way and 4-way active crossovers. Depending on the chosen audio interface, these crossovers may be used on up to 24 output channels with the MADI interface. This makes Trinnov Multichannel Platforms comprehensive equalization and crossover solutions for high-end sound systems.

Monitoring Controller

Solo or mute any channel, downmix to stereo or mono, and send GPO commands to third-party equipment.

Customizable Profiles

Trinnov combines automatic processes with flexible fine-tuning tools that allow the sound system designer and/or the Engineer to reach the best results, while making the whole process easier and faster: 8 Customisables Profiles allow to mix up different parameters independantly from any of the 29 existing user presets.

Remote Control

Real-Time remote capabalities can be achieved using RS-232, Ethernet IP protocol, optional GPIO boards, optional IR module and/or KVM, optional VGA/DVI touchscreens, and from any PC, Mac, iPad, SmartPhone (with VNC client applications, through the network)

Each processor is also supporting FTP reporting and USB parameters storage/backups.

Lock sensitive settings with a username and password.

Benefits of The Optional Software Modules

Optimizer

Intelligent Active Crossovers

Besides its standard active crossovers management, the Optimizer takes these overall complex task and simplifies it with a better result: individual driver and system measurements are acquired and analyzed, including the impulse response, delays and gains of every driver. The Optimizer’s calibration engine computes the ideal filters, finding the best compromise to improve flatness, directivity and attack in the overlapping frequency regions.

Multi-point: Build a Wider Listening Area

Trinnov’s sophisticated multipoint algorithm can take into account the measurements of different positions to perform the optimization. A higher weighting may be assigned to the most important listening position(s), and lower weightings to the remaining points.

Digital Room Acoustics : The Optimizer Module

The Optimizer brings Loudpseaker/Room correction to a whole new level. Its intelligent acoustic analysis engine automatically computes FIR and IIR filters to dramatically improve the consistency of direct sound against late reverberation. Full-phase, time domain techniques are applied compensating for the loudspeaker’s group delay and for very early reflections (deconvolution), while later reflections are left untouched.

3D Microphone

The Trinnov 3D microphone measurement is the result of Trinnov engineers extensive research in 3D sound. Each of the 4 omnidirectionnal capsules are placed at the exact same distance from each other, forming a pyramidal diagram. This is called triangulation. This helps localizing each speaker’s placement on both horizontal and vertical planes. The use of such a technology is mainly intended to 2D and 3D speaker remapping.

Modern Acoustic Measurements and Analysis

The Optimizer uses MLS signals to measure the full impulse response of every loudspeaker in the room. This adds the time dimension to the frequency response, and enables the Optimizer to see the full picture of the loudspeaker’s behavior in the room. In multichannel setups the Trinnov’s unique cal mic identifies the real positions of the loudspeakers in 3D. Trinnov’s state-of-the art time-frequency analysis algorithms identify room modes, first reflections and late reverberation. Every acoustic aspect is analyzed and compensated with a specific technique. All the subtlety of the Optimizer resides in knowing which defects can be corrected with acoustic transparency.

Additionally, the Optimizer automatically generates complete PDF reports every time a preset is written. These reports can be downloaded from Trinnov processors to a USB stick or Hard Drives via FTP.

Report Example

Phase Response Improvements

The Optimizer improves the frequency response of the loudspeakers, both in amplitude and phase.Trinnov corrects the tonal balance to obtain a neutral timbre for every speaker, working in the time domain to achieve a high resolution stereophonic image with well-focused phantom sources. The loudspeaker’s sound (including the early reflections) and the room (energy response) are separately equalized, opening up the listening window.

Target Curve: Meet your loudspeakers characteristics

The Optimizer automatically defines the filters that will achieve the required frequency response defined by your target curve. This is particularly useful in post-production studios in order to comply with SMPTE standards (X-Curve). Phase and group delay targets can also be defined, making the Optimizer a unique tool for sound system designers.

2D and 3D remapping

2D and 3D remapping is one of the Trinnov leading technology. Thanks to the microphone 3D measurements capabilities, speakers original placement can precisely be localized in the room, in terms of distance, azymuth and elevation. According to these reported informations, a more accurate speaker placement can be retrieved.

While 2D remapping deals mainly with the horizontal plane, 3D remapping will manage both azimuths and elevations. As an example, a central speaker placed below or above a video screen can be virtually repositionned in the same plane as the left and right speakers. This is particularly useful in small rooms and OB Vans, where the lack of space doesn’t always allow for ideal speaker placement.

2D and 3D remapping is a perfect solution for ensuring a full compliance to broadcast, music and cinema sound reproduction standards, regardless of the constraints of your room.

SmartMeter

EBU R128 Loudness and True Peak Meters

Loudness metering has become a must requirement for today’s productions. The SmartMeter helps improving the consistency of loudness throughout your programs. It implements the latest ITU 1770 /1771 standards and complies with EBU R128 Loudness recommendation. In addition, True Peak measurement . Also complies with USA CALM Act Requirements.

PPM / QPPM / Vectorscope / Surround Analyser / Correlation Meters

In addition to Loudness and True Peak, the Trinnov offers all the important tools you need to monitor the quality of a program : Peak (PPM), Quasi-Peak Program Meters (QPPM), Stereo and multichannel phase correlation meters.

Customisable Multi-view

Get all the metering tools and monitor Control at your fingertips. Flip between screens or see all four at once.

Specs

Specs
<guid

The Trinnov Optimizer cleans most loudspeaker system imperfections including 3D position errors, frequency response, group delay, phase, incorrect channel assignment…

Trinnov Audio is developing a licensing program for integration of Trinnov Optimizer into consumer products, initially targeting surround processors and AV receivers.

The Trinnov Optimizer DSP solution offers a tremendous opportunity for surround products including:

enhanced product differentiation

show stopping customer benefits at a competitive price

simple, 1 minute customer setup, zero knowledge required, with stunning results.

Why the Optimizer?

To accelerate the acceptance of surround products in homes.

The audio industry has evolved through a significant shift from home stereo to a supportive role in the multimedia home entertainment environment. The home entertainment systems available today offer unprecedented entertainment choices for the consumer: video, HD TV, computing, movies, and now, 5.1 surround music. A key element in all the deliverable formats is a 5.1 multichannel playback system. This is in full evidence where there is now a CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) standard in development for new home “prewire standards.”

While much is being done to integrate entertainment systems into the home, a key weakness for the audio market segment has been how to get “perfect” speaker placement in the typically imperfect home environment. Without ideal speaker placement, much of the huge investment in software content is lost: the surround experience is not correctly delivered to the listener.

This is most evident with the relatively low market acceptance of DVD-Audio and SACD surround music formats.
There is a significant market opportunity to accelerate the acceptance of “home theatre” through solutions that achieve optimal playback characteristics from any reasonable speaker arrangement. Current solutions to improve multichannel reproduction address correction of amplititude, time/delay, and basic equalization. The best systems have automated the process and utilize a calibration microphone.

While the improvement is significant, it is not enough, as correction is required for poor imaging resulting from compromised loudspeaker placement. Trinnov Audio‘s extensive research has lead to the development of a restitution process, marketed under the name Optimizer, that transforms audio content through acoustic field restitution to optimise playback within typical “imperfect” spaces that are imposed on the listener. By bringing an unprecedented flexibility in the loudspeaker positions, Trinnov Optimizer has been designed to accelerate the development of “home theatre” system.

With the Trinnov Optimizer, home theatre systems are easy to install and deliver optimal multichannel sound.

Implementation

The Optimizer is a post-process algorithm applied directly after a usual multichannel decoding process. Trinnov Audio has developed DSP implementations.
<p
